The Real Don Draper Profiled…

How many of you have seen the TV show “Mad Men?” I would place a hefty bet to say that the majority of you have at least glanced at a show that could be described as one of the hottest of recent years. Advertising executives, lawyers, architects, journalists, recording artists were all part of perhaps the most swinging era of modern times. Boyd Lemon– ex-lawyer– current writer was a huge part of that generation. As a high-powered lawyer, he earned millions, drove the fastest cars and snorted mountains of coke. Irresponsible behaviour, success, and greed were all hallmarks of the “Mad Men.” Now, you too can live the “Mad Man” lifestyle through his memoir “Digging Deep: A Writer Uncovers His Marriages.”

Stroll with Boyd Lemon as he takes you through the power, the politics, the breakdowns and the destruction of life on the edge of reality. There is no way for a man to hide the pain inside–a fantasy kept alive. This is a book for those who seek the truth they can never find and who need to find a reason to justify missing the “Mad Men” era. This is the book for you. Money just ain’t what it used to be….

Author Frank Fiore is the Oracle!

Frank Fiore is one of the foremost short story writers in America. He has sold thousands of books and will continue to do so because he is talented. For those who know Frank… You know what to expect. For those who don’t know Frank… Say HELLO!

Q) How would describe your book, its genre?  Do you write in more than one genre? What are they? Why? Do you feel it might confuse your readers?

A) THE ORACLE is a love letter to the Golden Age of Science Fictionbooks like the ILLUSTRATED MAN and TV shows like the Twilight Zone.  I write in multiple genres just like Michael Crichton. I’ve written a techno-thriller, an action/adventure series, and a soon to be published novel in mainstream fiction. Writing multiple genres hasn’t confused the readers of the likes of Michael Crichton.

Q) Briefly tell us about your latest book.

A) It’s called THE ORACLE and consists of a series of short stories tied together by means of a background story – a story within a story (similar to Ray Bradbury’s “Illustrated Man”). And like the Jeffrey Archer and Twilight Zone stories, the Oracle short stories are written with surprise endings.

The background story begins with a young musician on his way to Phoenix from Los Angles for a concert. He is given a car by his manager and shortly after entering Arizona it breaks down. Out in the middle of nowhere he decides tohitch a ride to the nearest town for help. While waiting for a ride, the weather turns inclement and he seeks refuge at a ranch house inhabited by an old and lonely couple. They invite him in and persuade him to stay for dinner.

After eating, they retire to the living room. After a while, the old woman offers to show their guest some of their three dimensional slides on their old-time stereoscope.

Being polite, the young man decides to endure the request. His hosts carefully remove a set of slides from a shiny metallic box from under the coffee table and place the first one in the stereoscope’s viewer. They instruct the young man to hold the stereoscope up to the living room lamp and focus it towards the viewer. When the viewer is focused and the light hits the slide, something amazing happens.

The still 3D image begins to move!

The first image he sees tells a tale that happens to be one of the short stories in the series. At the end of the first story, the young man turns to question his hosts on this wonderfully strange device. The couple just smile and offer him another slide. He asks again what the device is and where did it come from. The couple respond that the device is an ordinary stereoscope of the early 1900s that they purchased from a Sears catalog many years ago.

But the slides – ah yes, the slides. That’s another matter indeed.

Q) How long have you been writing? How long did it take to write your book? And what motivated you to write it?

A) I wrote my first full-length novel over 40 years ago. It was a SyFy novel but it wasn’t very good. But I did finish it.  It takes me – from basic research to finished product about two years or so. I write to entertain my readers. Tell a good story and they like it is my reward.

Q) What is the best thing reviewers or critics have said about your book?

A) “The ORACLE has it all; mystery, intrigue, science vs fantasy and alternative realities. I absolutely loved this story! I truly believe you will enjoy it as well. If you are a reader that enjoys stories like Lee Child’s non-stop action and Dan Brown’s gut-twisting suspense then look no farther The ORACLE is the book for you.”

Q) What has been the most difficult part of your writing experience? Dealing with publishers, agents, editors getting reviews, query letters, what? Could be any or all.

A) Well, agents and publishers are always looking for the next big thing. But in my opinion, they miss some of the good writing that’s out there. It may no fit the ‘zombie’ or ‘werewolf’ genre that seems to be the rage but they should as least give the new writers a chance.

Q) Describe your writing process. Do you outline, create rough synopses, do you do detailed biographies of the characters before starting to write?

Many years ago, I started collecting ideas for my novels. I created file folders for each proposed story I would write. As I found any and all material that fit the story line, I would drop it into the assigned folder. This would include websites, books, news items, magazine articles, videos, etc. etc. This process has worked well for me in helping develop my stories.

Q) Describe where you do your writing.

A) I alternate between my home office and bars at the many luxury resorts we have in Phoenix.

Q) Can you summarize your book in 140 characters or less (Tweet size)? Do so.

What short stories combine the ILLUSTRATED MAN, TWILIGHT ZONE & short stories of JEFFREY ARCHER?http://tinyurl.com/mmel6n4

Q) Who were the authors that influenced you? What about them and their style appeals to you?

A) The Golden Age of Science Fiction authors – Asimov, Heinlein, Bradbury.

Q) How much literary license do you take with your stories? Do you create fictional locations? Do you use real locations, with some fictionalizing or do you stick very close to the actual setting? Why?

A) I write stories that are realistic and believable so my settings and charters are close to reality.

Q) Where do you see your writing career going? Why do you think that?

A) Number one – I want to be a noted author with a following. Not get rich, necessarily – which would be nice – but to know that what I have written has entertained my readers and perhaps informed them at the same time.

Q) What’s the hook for the book?

A) The main overall story and the all the short stories end in a twist – like the old Twilight Zone episodes. Some stories are meant to shock while others are whimsical. Either way, the endings are not predictable.

Q) What happens next?  Is there another book? A new career in some other field? What are your future writing plans? Is it dependent upon this book being a success?

A) I’ve just finished my 5th novel. It’s called MURRAN. I expect this to be my breakthrough novel because it is steeped in politically incorrect controversy. It is getting very good reviews from my beta readers.

MURRAN is the story of a young African-American boy named Trey coming of age in the 1980s, and his rite ofpassage to adulthood. Trey is a member of a ‘crew’ in Brooklyn and is enticed into helping a violent drug gang. He is eventually framed for murder and flees with his high school teacher to his Maasai village in Kenya. There, Trey learns what a true Black African and African culture is, goes through the Maasai warrior’s rite of passage, becomes a young shaman, and returns to America to confront the gang leader that framed him.

(Reblogged from Simon Duringers website.)

Working across several time zones he endures endless hours in pursuit of promotional excellence for his clients.

In the Indie world we all know the importance and impact of those who review our work, so let’s not take my word for it but soak up the contents of this 5* review of Nick’s work by one of his very prominent clients;

“He soaks up information like a sponge and can take a new idea further in a day than anyone I’ve met in years. You would be very fortunate to have Mr Wale working for you”.~ Terry Irving- Emmy-award winning TV news producer and author of “Courier”.

Ladies and gentlemen, take several deep breaths and prepare to be windswept… The whirlwind that is Nick Wale is in the house…

Today Nick Wale has joined me on Simons 10 Q Interviews; whilst I may have been asking the questions, I can’t help but feel that Nick Wale has been controlling the pace. His enthusiasm is unquestionable and he fired back answers like roadrunner on speed. His motivation towards his clients is viral and addictive and his pitch is deadly…. Hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen as before the end of this interview you could find his frank, open and honest answers enthusing you to march down Pall Mall bearing placards stating “Nick Wale for Prime Minister” and… I think he’d get my vote!

Welcome Nick Wale….

Nick Wale

SD Q1: You entered publishing in the midst of a revolution and effectively created your own niche promoting the work of others; Already the creator of multiple Indie Bestsellers on behalf of your clients, what has been your proudest moment so far and why?
NW A1: My proudest moment? I think that must have been when Cliff Roberts broke into the top ten with three consecutive books. It was a lot of hard work that paid off. The first two Reprisalbooks sold several thousand copies during their first couple of weeks of release. That was a thrill– then to win sales awards, win the attention of other authors and be copied by them? To have my PR style borrowed by authors all over the world? To tell the foreman where to stick it and become my own boss? All proud moments… I’ve been blessed, and that in itself may be my proudest moment. I really hit the cosmic jackpot with my career. From unemployed dude, to interviewer, to PR guy to….what’s next? It took a year of graft to get this far. Just think where it’ll be in a few years? It excites me just thinking about it. That may be my proudest moment–just there–thinking about the journey I have undertaken and what is yet to come.

SD Q2: How many books do you estimate you have read over the years and what is your preferred genre both as reader and promoter?
NW A2: I’ve read probably more than I’ve promoted! Seriously, I have spent years reading and that’s no lie. I’ve read until I’ve gone cross-eyed. My preferred genre? Hell, kid! I can make anything sell, so I don’t go for book racism. If it’s good I want it. I have had success with thrillers, mystery, horror, self-help… The list goes on! Nobody thought Tommy Ufert would hit the top spot… He did… twice!

SD Q3: The stable of authors you promote is already impressive, how many more can you handle on your own before reaching capacity and have you already got prospects to fill those gaps in your sights?
NW A3: I just signed a guy called Bruce Bennett who will become one of the biggest things I’ve ever handled. How many more can I handle? As many as I want. I believe in using to-do lists as much as possible. I work with a Chinese plate philosophy. Make one hit book and spin it–move onto the next–move onto the next–keep them all spinning, and when one fades, replace it with another hit. Right now, Cliff is selling, Mike Trahan is selling, RJ Smith is selling, etc… Bruce Bennett and Rosanne Dingli are going to start spinning soon. It’s a crazy world, and I love it. Who do I want next? I want anyone who has a great book! I’m young, brash, cocky and arrogantAND very good at making hits happen very quickly, so whilst I can keep the clients happy and their hits rolling I won’t be setting limits.

SD Q4: The Indie world is reputed to be pumping out 1,000,000 new titles each year and in turn this, as with most new and expanding market places, has attracted the less than scrupulous into the business looking for that quick buck. How would you advise those who are looking for assistance in getting published, to ensure that they do not overpay for publishing services or end up with a poor quality product for their money?
NW A4: Write great product, hire a good editor, like mine! Save yourself the heartbreak of begging for a big publishing contract and self-publish. Then read what other bestsellers are doing and recreate the formula. Look at the way they list their books, the way they are pushing their product. Make great use of keywords and similar titles. Do not believe they have the edge. You have the edge. In this industry, you can DO ANYTHING you want! Want to be a big star?Do it! Now, I want to stress that you should not pay for anything you don’t have to. Don’t sign contracts with small publishing houses who want you to pay for your own returns. Don’t pay twenty-thousand dollars for editing five pages. If it smells bad, it’s bad, and steer away from it. If you’re an author and you want to succeed, you have to be prepared to spend some money, but let’s keep it serious, folks. If you don’t feel comfortable with a price you are given, shop around. There are con artists in this industry, and I have dealt with a fair few of them. Sometimes you will find that a small publisher wants to sign you just so you can pay him/her to edit your book. Sometimes a small publisher wants you to cover the cost of printing books. If they ask you to do that, return the contract in pieces. As an author you are required to pay for nothing for the actual publishing of your book. However, If you want a PR guy like me, you will have to shell out; if you want to have the book professionally edited (a must, as far as I’m concerned), you will need to shell out. Just don’t go paying the bills of no-value services, small-publishing outfits promising the world, and Tweeting services with three followers, kids. Certain people will try to make you do that, and you just have to keep your wits about you.

SD Q5: You regularly communicate with all your clients whom are located across all corners of the globe. Indeed working within the same time zone as you I have been astonished that sending emails on to you at the crack of sparrows more often than not generates an instant response, even on weekends! How does an ‘average’ day pan out for you?
NW A5: I wake up around 10am UK time and start my day by catching the news, always the news. Then I check my email from my nice, comfy bed. I make sure to spin a few records in the morning and answer urgent mail. URGENT usually comes from Cliff Roberts who wants to know when his next royalty check is going to arrive. I then have some breakfast, catch a few smokes and stumble into my office. My laptop is usually waiting for me and it’s off to work. First thing– make sure FB pages are updated and check FB messages; then onto Twitter, nickwale.org, and so it goes. I then start pushing books, and it doesn’t stop. I can be on the phone with Hollywood one second and Skyping with Mr R Briggs from Australia the next. Once I am in front of my laptop working, there’s no set anything. I work until I drop, and then I wake up the next day and do the whole thing over again. Emmy-winner Terry Irving, one of my first major clients, once asked, “Does Nick ever sleep?”
Always! You’d never know it though.

SD Q6: You agree to spend the rest of your days sealed within the British Library. Noting your passion for books, those incarcerating you decide you will be provided with everything you need to live out your days wanting for nothing. Your final granted concession is to choose within which departments to build the final four areas of your accommodation, though you will have to live amongst the literature held there. One area per department of your choice; Where would you choose to put; your living room, kitchen, bedroom and lavatory and why?

NW A6:
Living Room The smoking section.
Kitchen Hmm… Magazine section so I can check out the latest Playboy issue whilst I cook.
Bedroom Near the exit so I can sneak out for a few burgers.
Lavatory Thriller section so I can read in comfort.

SD Q7: For those who remain undecided between self publishing and traditional publishing, what in your opinion are the key pros and cons for each side of the argument?
NW A7: Traditional publishing? Long waits to hear from agents, disinterested publishing companies and a lack of support from them when you do get signed. Low sales, high returns and a slapstick style of promotion. Have you checked out the book posters they come up with? A chimp could do better. In fact… I hear Arrow use trained monkeys to do their promotional posters instead of paying for artists. If they had any brains they would be hiring the George Vegas of the world.

Self-publishing? Crap shoot– but a crap shoot YOU control! You can do whatever you want with it, and if you fail, you fail because you failed. If you succeed, you become a well-read, respected author with a bunch of money in your pocket. Isn’t that fairer? A chance to make it big without paying for the board meetings of Harper Collins.

SD Q8: I must congratulate you on your own publication Novel Reads which became an instant hit with top rankings on amazon. For the benefit of those considering a promoter for an existing or new publication, can you tell them what the final download number was for ‘Novel Reads’, what ranking it received and how quickly it got there?
NW A8: Novel Reads By Novel Ideas went to #1 in the U.S within a few hours and hit the UK #1 spot a few hours later. We moved several thousand copies within the first five days. We had a 50% increase in readership this month and next month will see another climb. The whole premise of the magazine is to put the spotlight right on top of independent books. The industry, Simon, is changing and you need visibility. E-zines are as essential to writers as Rolling Stone was to recording artists in the ’70s. If you want to be read, you need to be seen.

SD Q9: What is your favourite book and if different, your favourite author of all time and why?
NW A9: My favourite book is the Bible. I have always been fascinated by religious texts and the Bible is every single type of book all rolled into one easy to read package. Want adventure? Want inspiration? Put Deepak Chopra down and get yourself a copy of the Bible, the greatest text of all.

SD Q10: In your opinion, what does the future hold for the publishing industry and will traditional publishing survive within this on-going revolution?
NW A10: I get asked this a lot and my reply is as follows. The traditional publishing industry is about as relevant now as two cans with string would be to the British Telecom of today. There is NO future for the traditional publishing industry as stands. It’s a dying monster that refused to change with the times. I have heard it said that Neanderthal man still exists in the minds of the men and women running Harper Collins. Backward thinking, backward focused dinosaurs– the lot of them. It will be a pleasure to see these bigoted, small-minded companies falter and self-published authors take over the industry. If it was up to these conglomerates of evil we would lose hundreds of thousands of great manuscripts every year. We would be force-fed celebrity biographies until illiteracy ran rampant. Their slide has been a long time coming and good riddance. Let celebrity biographies become self-published and save us from the frankly boring and irresponsible lectures of self-help analysts with 1 million dollar contracts in their pockets. Additionally, when traditional publishing companies DO release a book worthy of reading, they dump promotional duties back on the author. What’s the point? Why give these companies your royalties when they do nothing for you? Self-publish, join the revolution and become part of the future. That’s what I have to say to authors– become the future and forget the past.

“I’ll Be Damned,” Remarks Hitmaker Boyd Lemon

Boyd LemonWell, I’ll be damned,” Boyd Lemon remarked when his latest promotional campaign pushed his bestselling novel “Digging Deep: A Writer Uncovers His Marriages” into the higher reaches of the bestseller listings. It was just a natural occurrence though for those of us working the Lemon campaign. Boyd is the ultimate professional writer– not working for money, fame or as a whore to his talents. He has already claimed those accolades. As a lawyer in the heady “Mad Men” era. An era that saw him excel and became one of the most sought after legal minds of his generation. It was, however, not what he wanted. To be a writer was what he truly wanted and on retiring he settled down, cut out the lifestyle, the money and the desire to be a “Mad Man” and became a writer– and looking at his latest sales figures– he has gained a huge following.

Digging Deep: A Writer Uncovers His Marriages” is one of those books that will keep you enthralled for days until you’ve had your fill of how the over side lives. What does it feel like to have the money, the power, the loss, the pain… What does it feel like to have a success that you don’t really care about. “Digging Deep” could be taken as a warning. If you want to go into a high powered job and nothing can dissuade you… This book just might. You just won’t want the money when you read what it really costs.

Boyd is one of the most interesting men I have ever met. As a man he is probably one of the most generous, friendly people you could meet. You could almost forget that this guy is trained to pounce on your words and make you eat your mistakes. You really could…

Now, if you are smart… You will go out and get a copy of “Digging Deep.” If you’re dumb you will just forget about it and go watch reality TV. It’s really that much of a divide… The choice is yours… You can catch more of Boyd Lemon in this months “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas.”

Bring Me Back: The Teenage Sensation!

Trying to keep up with the trends? Yveta Germano has a book that will become the teenage trend of tomorrow. The first volume of her fantastic series of books is about one clone and one girl who fall in love.

What could possibly go wrong when seventeen-year-old Aliana breaks into an old mansion to find out who was hiding behind the curtain of an attic room window? Everything. Aliana’s life is turned upside down when she meets eighteen-year-old Damon, a male clone, as she struggles to grasp not only the new reality around her, but also the meaning of life itself. Damon is a fierce, unbelievably handsome man on one hand, and a cold, wildly unpredictable scientific creation on the other. When Aliana finds herself in a situation where she must trust Damon with her own life, one answer to a nagging question can mean the difference between life and death – Does a clone have a conscience and a soul?

As humankind faces the ultimate retribution for its past evil doings, Damon and Aliana must unravel the fundamental mystery of what it is that makes us human, if we are to survive as an intrinsic part of the universe. Damon, a supernatural clone, has a heightened sense of awareness; Aliana has an inherent power of her own that was passed on through generations of women in her family. Together, they have a chance to succeed. But the stakes may be too high, and time is running out.

This fast-paced, mysterious story is the first book of a trilogy about an unusual friendship and a quest to find out how black holes, dark energy, and new dimensions of space and time may be a much bigger part of our reality than we’ve been led to believe. It will set readers’ spirits flying and their hearts racing.

This FIVE STAR read will have both you and your teenager addicted from the first word! Why don’t you pick up a copy and come over and meet Yveta on her Twitter or Facebook page.

Who Killed Santa Claus? RJ Smith?

RJ Smith is an optioned screenwriter and bestselling author of anything that fits the criteria of ‘action-packed.’ Reading his work is like watching a movie of the mind—the words just leap from the page and screw right into your brain.

He’s been noted in Francis Ford Coppola’s American Zoetrope Studios, The Page International Screenwriting Awards and the Sundance Table Read My Screenplay. His latest novel “The Santa Claus Killer” is currently the #1 hot release on Amazon and is tipped to be the bestselling horror novel of the year.

Q) RJ, many thanks for stopping in.

A) I just could not pass up the opportunity to come pick your brain. You are, after all, the hit maker, I believe.

Q) Apparently so–however, this interview is supposed to be about you! So, how would you describe this book of yours, The Santa Claus Killer? What is the genre?

A) It’s a thrilling, horrific adventure ride of nightmarish proportions. I mean, seriously, Nick, The Santa Claus Killer plunges through multiple genres.

Q)  What is your general approach to writing? How do you go about writing those commercial novels?

A)  I use a story-driven method of writing, a stylistic approach with readers.  The only barometer for me is… does this story have commercial appeal? Will it sell? Does it appeal to a wide spectrum of the book buying consumer base? Just because a writer believes a story is good or cute does not necessarily mean it will sell, right? It has to have commercial merits for me to even consider writing word one.

Today I may write horror; tomorrow, action; next week, adventure. The story always dictates the genre for me, not the reverse.

As a scribe of tension building suspense —what we call contemporary penning—readers feel they’re watching a film. Many say their experience with my stories is that they imagine being a part of the book, standing in the room watching the scenes unfold. For a professional writer, what more can I ask?

Q) When did you start writing? How long has this been going on?

A) I’ve been writing since the womb, okay? Seriously, I was given artistic license by GOD to create during the conception process. Talk about a love scene! But seriously, I wrote my first tale at the age of sixteen, a short entitled The Storyteller—an upcoming full length novel.

However, my roots lie in Hollywood. For many years I plunged through the world of writing movies—screenplays until the agency which represents my madness suggested turning scripts into 100,000 word books. That’s a challenge, you know because writing a SPEC script which consists of 100 words per page, with a maximum page count of 120—well, it’s drastically less than 400 words per page and 400 pages of a novel.

Q) So, for a seasoned writer like yourself it should be pretty easy to cobble together a book. How long did it take to write The Santa Claus Killer?

A) I began storyboarding The Santa Claus Killer in March 2012 and wrote ‘The End’ on page 400 on Christmas Day 2012. So we’re talking about nine months, and then for three months, the book went through the editorial and agency process. I’d say a book of this stature—a momentous, character-rich book—should take somewhere around a year from conception to production.

Q) Can you explain what Storyboarding is to readers?

A)  In Hollywood, when you lay out a picture, a storyline, it was common in the old days to have a wall where you laid out the entire film. So, for me, I write scenes of my stories on 5×8 index cards, then pin them to the wall in the order of appearance. Literally, when I have the story laid out, there are a hundred cards pinned to the wall, outlining each scene step-by-step, and I can stare at this wall and see the movie and book in my head.

Q) So, of all the choices you could have made with regards to writing a book. What motivated you to write The Santa Claus Killer?

A) I actually started writing another book, Destiny (a movie I wrote for JS Integrity Management in Los Angeles) but then, as I started scripting the Santa Claus character, he stopped dead on the cold, bitter, filthy Manhattan sidewalk, turned to me, and stared into my blazing blue eyes. “This is MY STORY!” he stated in my head. From that moment, I knew two things.

Q) Yes?

A) Number one, Destiny the book would have to wait; and number two, The Santa Claus Killer was a bestseller that hadn’t even been written yet.

Q) Is it a stand-alone novel or part of a series?

A) Look, we all love serials, right, because it allows the audience, be they movie-goers or book worms, to really get to know a character. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with a one hit wonder, but I’d rather have a relationship with the reader. So The Santa Claus Killer is book #1 in a series I call The FBI Serial Killer Task Force.

Q) What is part two?

A) Part two is BEACH BODIES which I am outlining now for 2015. But you’ll have to kill me, Nick, to get any more information about that huge book right now.

Q) Who are your main characters in the story?

A) You know, I have so many fantastically painted and soulfully filled characters that they seem like your next door neighbor or co-worker.

Q) Well, I hope The Santa Claus Killer doesn’t live next door to me.

A) Me neither. I suppose the main characters would be Lieutenant Rico Martinez, head of Manhattan South Homicide and his Sergeant, Mike Murphy. Together, they must hunt down a madman intent on ruining Christmas in the nation’s biggest city during the busiest time of year. There is also the bad guy, Richard Blake, who dresses the part of Santa for motives explained in the book. Overall, it’s a once in ten year kind of book that reaches out and grabs the reader. One reviewer called it the “scariest book since the exorcist” which I suppose it is.

Q) Well, thanks for your time,  RJ… sure seems like a page turner.

A) The tale is in the details, twists, turns and creep out suspense that is The Santa Claus Killer. Thanks for having me, Nick!

Some Novel News…

Dear Friends,

I hope you have had a wonderful month. I just wanted to write and tell you why I have been absent from this site for a week or so… Things have been crazy over here at Novel Ideas, and I will be replying to all your emails and letters over the next few days. I was slightly shocked to find over ONE THOUSAND emails in my inbox… BUT I will work through them and I will respond to each and every one of you. The number one thing you have asked me is about the condition of the traditional publishing industry. There is no easy way to say this. Traditional publishing is dead, and it won’t be long until the burial. What used to be a relatively fair and decent industry has become a façade for money grabbing, small minded businessmen looking to make a few easy dollars. There is no budget to promote your book as far as they’re concerned. You are on your own… So… You might as well self-publish and control your own destiny. Remember, we are the drivers of the car that is this industry, and in the end, only we the people can direct where it’s heading. It’s time for us to start exploring new and uncharted territory. The self-publishing world is that uncharted territory, and it’s just waiting for you. Come and join the expedition and build your own niche, empire or cabin.

So, what has been going on with Novel Ideas?

Novel Ideas magazine hits number one“Novel Reads By Novel Ideas” hit the number one position in America at the beginning of the month. The success this magazine has seen was unprecedented and not expected in the least. Because of the magazine sales have been climbing all over, we have created several new number one novels this month. “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas” has become one of the most influential independent magazines overnight.

Hollywood movie star Alex Cord wrote to congratulate me on the magazine and this month we will be featuring a review of his bestselling novel Days of the Harbinger.” I am sure you will love the review and the book.

At the same time, I was approached to work on a brand new book from author Yveta Germano.Bring Me Back” is currently on its way to the top. This book is one of the best new teenage fiction books to be released.

Novel Ideas has been retained by Denise Barry to promote her fantastic kids’ release “What Does The Tooth Fairy Do With Our Teeth?” This wonderful book will allow your kids to “take a sneaky peek” inside the Tooth Fairy’s world where you will be amazed and delighted by all of the fun, creative and magical things she might do with our teeth. But be warned, you may never look at the world in the same way again–not the snow, the stars, or even a chocolate chip cookie! Her first interview with Novel Ideas will appear in the next issue of “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas” due out the first week of October.

Cliff Roberts sales awards

Cliff Roberts holds two sale awards awarded for sales of his novels.

Cliff Roberts has been climbing higher and higher with his sales soaring. His new novel “Conch Republic” has been awarded sales awards already for its chart action. “As a writer he’s marginal at best, but as a crime fighter, he’s one of the best. Nate Nevwas is a big man who is old, fat, and handicapped, yet friendly and terminally curious.” Cliff Roberts was amazed that a book taking him away from the action adventure of the “Reprisal” series would be successful. Who were you trying to kid, Cliff? Cliff will be appearing on a major radio network in a few weeks to answer question upon question about his overnight success.

Mike Trahan has been busy writing his third memoir to follow up the success of “The Gift” and “The Gift Part Two: The Airforce Years.” Mike recently appeared on a hip internet radio show “The Weekly Book Webinar” to talk about his work. The result? Trahan book sales went through the roof. The third part of his series of memoirs will surely follow.

Author and charity fundraiser Tom Ufert has been working hard on the next step of his writing career. Tom has already had great success with his inspirational memoir “Adversity Builds Character” and his number one bestseller “On The Roll.” This month he has been hard at work raising money for his charities of choice. Tom will be celebrating 21 years of “overcoming adversity” later this week.

Boyd Lemon has recently announced that he will be releasing a fiction book by the end of this year. Sales for his Boyd Lemon final advertisement“Mad Men” style memoir “Digging Deep” have been exceptionally strong, and Boyd will be appearing in this month’s “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas” e-magazine to promote his upcoming release. You will not want to miss this one!

Hollywood writer RJ Smith recently gave copies of his bestselling novel “The Santa Claus Killer” away at the Emmy’s. RJ has been riding a tidal wave of success since his entry into the book world, and he has spent much of the year touring to promote “Killer.” There is news of a new RJ Smith release in the future, and it may be a very wet read.

“The bad boy of happiness,” Patrick Mcmillan, has announced that he will be releasing a new book this year. Hopefully a follow on from his successful “Happiness for Kids” volume.

Hitmaker Charlie Flowers has been busy this month with three of his books all racing to the top of the bestseller list. The biggest of the three could well be his first release “Hard Kill.” Charlie has been promoting this book all month and will be heading back to work on the fourth installment next month.

The next issue of “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas” will be released early next month. This month will see interviews, short stories and articles from all over the writing world. I think you will love it… I know I do.

Best wishes,

Nick Wale

We Have Entered a New Era of Book Promotion

books1

Friends,

I wrote last week to tell you about the devastating effect the traditional publishing industry has had on the good people of the book world–the writers. I now want to tell you about one hope we have of escaping their iron grasp. I created an e-zine and gave it away for free. It has moved great numbers and hit number one.  We the People have shown that we will read independent books by independent authors, and ever since the release of the magazine we have been buying these books in larger quantities. Novel Reads by Novel Ideas (free on Amazon through this Thursday) has proven that the world is hungry for new talent and new ideas. The traditional publishing industry would have you believe that independent authors are somehow lesser, somehow not as talented; and yet, I have seen hundreds of writers as talented as those picked up by publishers, but they are for the most part ignored, forgotten, passed-over, left to languish on the sidelines.

What do we have to do to become a known author? We have to forget about the stale, old and broken author’s dream, and we have to then create a brand new dream. Perhaps a brand new world?

This new author’s world will give all authors the chance to reach the top. We will have to work hard, but haven’t we always? We the People have always striven for the best; and only when told we can’t have it, have we roared that we can. This new publishing world will depend on out-of-the-box ideas such as e-zines and free giveaways. This new author’s world will also encourage rivals to the big publishing companies. It will create opportunities for new bookselling websites and brand new bestselling authors will emerge all over the world.

I have a dream…

A dream that one day independent authors will be taken as serious alternate choices and accepted as writers without the arbitrary stamp from the “evil empire” of publishers weighing them down. A dream that as an independent author, your book will sit on a bookshelf next door to the latest traditional bestseller. A dream that one day that the traditional bestseller will sit at number two as your book heads the bestseller lists. I dream of the day when there will be no way to tell the difference between the books of independent and traditional authors. Each will be made the same size, shape and printed on the same quality paper. There will be no more bullying by the traditional publishers to make the self-published author’s book stand out as a self-published book. Have you ever wondered why your CreateSpace paperback is bigger? The traditional publisher exercises its muscle on the printer to make your book bigger and lessen its appeal. You aren’t allowed to share their space or their customers.

To hell with that. We the People deserve every opportunity, and this e-magazine is the keystone. As a PR, I will work outside of their rules; I will be new, different, and I expect to see the birth of a world I dream of. I expect my dream to blossom and grow until it becomes the norm. That’s when we will know that we have created equality in the book world.

I would like to hear from you if you would like to feature in the next issue of “Novel Reads By Novel Ideas.” This is a magazine for all who love the joy of books. Email me at Nick@nickwale.org.
